يا أهل لست بمشتاق إلى وطني

يا أهل لست بمشتاق إلى وطني

حتى أرى خيل فنا خسرُ بينكُم

حتى أرى خيل فنا خسرُ بينكُم

O kinsfolk, I do not yearn for my homeland

O people, I do not yearn for my homeland

until I see Fana Khusraw's cavalry among you.

Until I see the horses that were lost amongst you all

أضحى يهنأ في الأضحى بمنزلة

أضحى يهنأ في الأضحى بمنزلة

لا العرب نالت مراقيها ولا العجم

لا العرب نالت مراقيها ولا العجم

He is now congratulated at the Feast of Sacrifice on a rank

Now one revels on the Feast of the Sacrifice

whose heights neither Arabs nor non-Arabs have attained.

Neither did the Arabs attain its meadows nor the non-Arabs

أصغر بأضحية في غير يوم وغى

أصغر بأضحية في غير يوم وغى

فما اضاحيك الا الخيل والبهم

فما اضاحيك الا الخيل والبهم

How paltry a sacrifice on a day without battle!

I am too small for a sacrifice on any day other than the day they departed

For your sacrificial victims are only horses and valiant warriors.

So your only sacrifices are horses and camels

وإنما أنت لطف الله جسمه

وإنما أنت لطف الله جسمه

لنا وفي يدك الأرزاق والقسم

لنا وفي يدك الأرزاق والقسم

And you are but God's grace, which He embodied

You are but the grace of God embodied

for us; in your hand lie sustenance and allotted shares.

For us, and in your hands lie sustenance and allotment

عدلت حتى هممنا أن نجور وكم

عدلت حتى هممنا أن نجور وكم

من شارك نعما في ضمنها نقم

من شارك نعما في ضمنها نقم

You were so just that we contemplated injustice—and how many

You have judged until we were tempted to wrong - so many

have shared blessings that held punishments within them!

Who shared blessings now share retribution

إن المسيح وقد بانت دلالته

إن المسيح وقد بانت دلالته

لولا هداه لما ضلت به الامم

لولا هداه لما ضلت به الامم

Indeed, though the Messiah's proof was manifest,

Indeed, now that the guidance of the Messiah is evident

but for his guidance, the nations would not have strayed through him.

Had He not guided, the nations would not have gone astray

في كل ناحية لم ترعها امم

في كل ناحية لم ترعها امم

الهدي منها بعيد والاذى أمم

الهدي منها بعيد والاذى أمم

In every region you have not tended there are peoples;

In every direction nations unchecked by prophets roam

guidance is far from them, and harm is near.

Far from guidance, harbouring so much harm

إن البلاد ومن فيها مروعة

إن البلاد ومن فيها مروعة

بها اليك وان طلتها قرم

بها اليك وان طلتها قرم

Indeed, the lands and those within them are terrified;

The lands and those who dwell therein are fearful

they yearn for you, even if you put them off.

To you they flee, though you called them near

وما نبالي اذا ما كنت شاهدها

وما نبالي اذا ما كنت شاهدها

أن غاب معتضد عنها ومعتصم

أن غاب معتضد عنها ومعتصم

And we do not care, when you are present there,

We do not care if the protected and the protected in God are absent

that Mu'tadid and Mu'tasim are absent from them.

Say you will reclaim it, for your word to them is a vow

عدها بنصرك أو قل سوف ادركها

عدها بنصرك أو قل سوف ادركها

فإن قولك في أمثالهم قسم

فإن قولك في أمثالهم قسم

Promise them your aid, or say, 'I shall reach them';

for your word concerning their like is an oath.
