اشربا واسقيا فتىً يصحب الأي

ام نفساً كثيرة الأوطار

Drink and let the young man who accompanies the deer drink,

Or a soul of many shapes,

والنفوس الكبار تأنف للسا

دة أن يشربوا بغير الكبار

Great souls disdain to drink

With any but the great.

في جوار الصبا نحلّ بيوتاً

عمرت بالغصون والأقمار

In the company of dawn we pitch tents

Furnished with branches and moons,

وتصلي على أذان للطنابير

ونصغي لنغمة الأوتار

And say prayer at the call of grasshoppers

And listen to the melody of strings

بين قوم إمامهم ساجد

للكأس أو راكع على المزمار

Among a people whose imam bows down

To the goblet or kneels to the flute.
