هذاthis الهلالُthe crescent moon شبيهُهُhis likeness فيin حُسنهِhis beauty
وبهائِهand his splendor كَلاَّno indeed وفترةِby the languor of جَفنِهhis eyelid
This crescent resembles him in his beauty
This crescent moon, in its beauty
And his splendor? No—by the languor of his eyelid!
And splendor - no! And in the languor of its eyelid -
هَبكَsuppose you ادَّعيتَyou claimed بهاءَهhis splendor وضياءَهand his radiance
كيفَhow احتيالُكyour contrivance فيin تأَوُّدِthe swaying of غُصنِهِhis bough
Suppose you claimed his splendor and his radiance:
How could you claim its brilliance and radiance?
How could you contrive the swaying of his bough?
What trickery in professing love for its branch!
لوif لاحظَتكglanced at you جُفُونُهhis eyelids بِفُتُورِهاwith their languor
أقسمتَyou would swear أنكthat you ماnot رأيتَyou had seen كَحُسنِهِlike his beauty
Were his eyelids to glance at you with their languor,
If its eyes observed you in their listlessness
You would swear you had never seen beauty like his.
You would swear you never saw the like of its beauty.
