Have you not seen the spring showers, as though
Have you not seen the spring breeze as though
they spread gilded brocade across the horizons?
It spread golden veils over the meadows?

Thus they revealed cheerfulness in many a tree,
From a tree it brought ease and relief
though before them it had been sullen and scowling;
Which before was frowning and broken.

It clothed its branches in robes of sweet scent.

The rain's pure wine gave it its fill, and it began
The rain clouds watered it with drafts of drink
to sway drunkenly whenever the east wind blew,
Till in intoxication it sways when the zephyrs blow soft.

as though Shirzad's virtues sustained it,
As if Sherazad's locks it caressed and adorned
for it was safe from fading and growing pale.
For it was safe now and would not fade or turn sere.
