لكfor you اللهGod إنيindeed I ماas long as بعدتyou are far away مُسَهَّدُsleepless
وإنيand indeed I مسلوبُrobbed of العَزاءِsolace مُكَدَّدُworn down
God be with you! As long as you are far away, I lie sleepless.
And I am robbed of solace, worn down.
وإنِّيand indeed I إذاwhenever نَادَيتُI call upon صَبرِيmy patience أجابنيanswers me
سوابقُrushing drops منof دَمعِيmy tears تجورُswerve وتُقصِدُand strike home
And whenever I call upon my patience, I am answered
By rushing tears of mine that swerve and strike home.

My breaths raise them from my liver as blood,
And my eyelids let them fall, rose-red.
فَديتكِmay I be your ransom ماnot شوقيmy longing كشوقlike a longing عرفتُهI have known it

May I be your ransom! My longing is unlike any I have known,
Nor is this passion of the kind I used to know.

It is as though a spear quivers in my liver whenever
Lightning flashes, or a familiar haunt of yours appears.
أُحِّملُI charge with carrying أنفاسَthe breaths of الشمالِthe north wind رسائليmy messages
وليand I have زَفَراتٌsighs بينهاamong them تترددecho back and forth
I entrust my messages to the north wind's breaths,
And sighs of mine echo among them.

And if a scorching wind blows through an encampment, it is
The remnant of my breaths, with which it blazes.

Had I known what I would suffer from love,
No hand would have decreed separation in our union.

For here I am, abiding forever in the fire of passionate love.
