I did not taste the pleasure of life until

I became a companion to the house and the book.

ليس شيءٌ أعزَّ عندي من العل

م فَلِم أبتغي سواه أنيسا

م فَلِم أبتغي سواه أنيسا

Nothing is dearer to me than knowledge;

so why should I seek anything else as a companion?

إنما الذُّلُّ في مخالطةِ النَّا

إنما الذُّلُّ في مخالطةِ النَّا

س فَدَعهُم وَعِش عزيزاً رئيسا

س فَدَعهُم وَعِش عزيزاً رئيسا

Humiliation lies only in mingling with people;

so leave them, and live honored, a leader.
