وقالوا اضطرب في الأرض فالرزقُ واسعٌ

وقالوا اضطرب في الأرض فالرزقُ واسعٌ

فقلتُ ولكن مَطلبُ الرزقِ ضيِّقُ

فقلتُ ولكن مَطلبُ الرزقِ ضيِّقُ

And they said, “Range across the land, for sustenance is abundant.”

And they said, "Roam the earth, for sustenance is plentiful."

I said, “But the pursuit of sustenance is straitened:

So I said, "But the path to sustenance is narrow.

إذا لم يكُن في الأرض حُرٌّ يُعينُني

إذا لم يكُن في الأرض حُرٌّ يُعينُني

ولم يكُ لي كَسبٌ فمن أين أُرزقُ

ولم يكُ لي كَسبٌ فمن أين أُرزقُ

if there is no free and noble man in the land to help me,

If there is no noble man on earth to help me,

and I have no means of earning, then whence shall I be sustained?”

and I have no earnings, then from where shall I receive sustenance?"
