لَيتَكَif only you أَدَّبتَنيwould discipline me بِواحِدَةٍwith a single thing
تَجعَلُهاyou make it مِنكَfrom you آخِرَthe end of الأَبَدِeternity
If only you would teach me a single lesson,
One from you to last until the end of time:
تَحلِفyou swear أَلّاthat … not تَبَرَّنيyou show me kindness أَبَداًever
فَإِنَّfor indeed فيهاin it بَرداًcoolness عَلىupon كَبديmy liver
Swear never to show me kindness,
For in that lies coolness for my liver.
إِنif كانَis رِزقيmy livelihood إِلَيكَentrusted to you فَاِرمِthen cast بِهِit

If my livelihood rests with you, then cast it
Into the eyes of a serpent lying in wait.
