The stations of the people of faith among the children of this world

The status of the pious with the people of this world

Are the stations of those intent on the highest rank.

Are statuses of those focused on the highest rank

رأوا ربّهم قبل الَّذين يرونهم

رأوا ربّهم قبل الَّذين يرونهم

فمالوا مع لاإِثبات واطّرحوا النّفيا

فمالوا مع لاإِثبات واطّرحوا النّفيا

They saw their Lord before those who see them,

They saw their Lord before those who see them

So they sided with affirmation and cast negation aside.

So they affirmed and discarded all denial

ولم يطلبوا إلا رضا الله وحدَه

ولم يطلبوا إلا رضا الله وحدَه

ولو أسخطوا هذا الأنام بلا ثنيا

ولو أسخطوا هذا الأنام بلا ثنيا

And they sought nothing but the pleasure of God alone,

And sought nothing but God's pleasure alone

Even if they angered this whole human race, without exception.

Even if they angered people without hesitation

ومن كان بالتّحقيق للحق قائلا

ومن كان بالتّحقيق للحق قائلا

تُقُبِّل منه ما يقول ولو أعيا

تُقُبِّل منه ما يقول ولو أعيا

And whoever speaks the truth with certainty,

And whoever speaks the truth with certainty

What he says is accepted from him, even if he falters.

His words are beloved even if resisted

فكم مالك باغ أصاخ لواعظ

فكم مالك باغ أصاخ لواعظ

بحق فلم يَسطِع على وعظه بغيا

بحق فلم يَسطِع على وعظه بغيا

For many a tyrannical ruler has listened to an admonisher

So how many preachers of truth were opposed

Speaking truth, yet could not answer his counsel with tyranny.

With harm, but could not be deterred from preaching

نواصي ملوك الأرض في يد مالك

نواصي ملوك الأرض في يد مالك

يصرّف في مخلوقه الامر والنّهيا

يصرّف في مخلوقه الامر والنّهيا

The forelocks of earth's kings are in a Sovereign's hand;

The necks of earthly kings are in Malik's hands

He directs command and prohibition among His creatures.

He commands His creation with injunction and prohibition

فلا تُرض مَخلُوقاً باسخاطِ خالقٍ

فلا تُرض مَخلُوقاً باسخاطِ خالقٍ

فربّك أولى من يُخَافُ ويُستَحيَا

فربّك أولى من يُخَافُ ويُستَحيَا

So do not please a creature by angering the Creator,

So do not please a creature by angering The Creator

For your Lord most deserves that you fear Him and feel shame before Him.

For your Lord is more deserving of reverence and bashfulness

ومن ىثر المولى على كلٍّ حالة

ومن ىثر المولى على كلٍّ حالة

رأى آمليه في الممات وفي المحيا

رأى آمليه في الممات وفي المحيا

And whoever puts the Lord first in every circumstance

And whoever considers the Master in every state

Sees those who place their hopes in him, in death and in life.

Sees His hopes in life and death

فيا من يريد الله حقاً بقوله

فيا من يريد الله حقاً بقوله

تلبث فقد غلّبت دنيا على دنيا

تلبث فقد غلّبت دنيا على دنيا

So, O you who truly seek God through your words,

O you who wants God truly in his words

Pause, for you have favored one world over another.

Persist, for you have overcome a world with a world

إذا ما جعلت الزيّ برّك والتّقى

إذا ما جعلت الزيّ برّك والتّقى

فإنّك يوم الحشر أكرمهم زيّا

فإنّك يوم الحشر أكرمهم زيّا

If you make outward attire your righteousness and piety,

When you make piety and righteousness your splendor

Then on the Day of Gathering you will be the finest-dressed among them.

You will be the most honored on the Day of Resurrection
