تُ وإن نظمت على البديهه

So now I excel, whether I compose prose

So now it's best that I scatter

or compose verse on the spur of the moment.

Whether you compose extemporaneously

وأحوك كلّ قصيدة

وأحوك كلّ قصيدة

عذراء تكبر عن شبيهه

عذراء تكبر عن شبيهه

And I weave every ode,

And I weave every ode

a virgin too exalted to have a peer.

A maiden who has outgrown her peer

أنطقتها ملء اللّسان

أنطقتها ملء اللّسان

وطال ما كانت فهيهه

وطال ما كانت فهيهه

I made her speak with a full tongue,

I've made it speak plain

though long she had been tongue-tied.

Though long has it been bashful

ما إن تحاذر حيث سارت

ما إن تحاذر حيث سارت

ناقداً إلاَّ العضيهه

ناقداً إلاَّ العضيهه

Wherever she travels, she fears no

It need not beware wherever it goes

critic, save slander.

Of any critic but the fault-finding one

آثار ما أودعتَهُ ال
