مغرم بالكمال مشغوف

مغرم بالكمال مشغوف

Say to the Sufi scholar of hadith, from one

Say to the Sufi preacher, who

enamored of perfection, passionately devoted:

Is enamored of perfection, passionate:

أنت الذي إن وصفتُ شيمته

أنت الذي إن وصفتُ شيمته

فهمت منها أجلّ موصوف

فهمت منها أجلّ موصوف

You are the one—if I describe your character,

You are the one whom if I describe his traits

I discern in it the noblest of those described.

I understand from them the greatest described one.

علم ودين يعمّ نورهما

علم ودين يعمّ نورهما

كلَّ بصير وكلَّ مكفوف

كلَّ بصير وكلَّ مكفوف

Knowledge and faith—their light embraces

Knowledge and religion whose light covers

every sighted person and every blind person.

Every insightful and every blind person.

إن كنت عنه بالشَّخص منصرفا

إن كنت عنه بالشَّخص منصرفا

فخاطري عنه غير مصروف

فخاطري عنه غير مصروف

If I am parted from him in person,

If you are distracted from him by the person

my mind is not turned away from him.

Then my thoughts about him are not distracted.

وإن أشاع الصحاب حبَّهم

وإن أشاع الصحاب حبَّهم

قصرت حبي على ابن معروف

قصرت حبي على ابن معروف

And if the companions spread their love widely,

And if the companions spread their love

I have confined my love to Ibn Ma‘ruf.

My love is focused on the son of Ma'roof.
