    O you who drink wine in your heedless hours,

    hiding behind doors and curtains,

    when night grows dark and its locks turn gray,

    you retire alone with a cup, strings, and a flute.

    Have you not learned that God is watching,

    counting your deeds, both open and secret?

    Were you hidden in the darkness of the sea,

    beyond the reach of all ears and eyes,

    بل كلُّ فعلك مقدورٌ بمقدار

    nothing about you would be hidden from the All-Merciful;

    rather, all you do is decreed in due measure.

    What good is it to you that everyone is unaware

    of what you concealed, when it is not hidden from the Creator?

    فكم أتى دون تسويف وإصرار

    Do not let God's shielding you for so long make you transgress;

    for often it has come without delay or persistence.

    So turn away from sin willingly, in repentance,

    or you will turn away from it against your will.

    And if you will have nothing but persistence for company,

    do you think you have any endurance for the Fire?
