أتدريdo you know منwhom تبارزyou challenge بالذّنوبwith sins
أتدري من تبارز بالذّنوب
وتعصيand you disobey الأمرthe command منهfrom Him علىwith الدّؤوبِpersistence
وتعصي الأمر منه على الدّؤوبِ
Do you know whom you openly defy with sins,
Do you know whom you challenge with your sins,
continually disobeying the command that comes from Him?
and whose command you persistently disobey?
وتجحدand you deny ماwhat حباكHe bestowed upon you منof الأياديfavors
وتجحد ما حباك من الأيادي
وتنسىand you forget ماwhat حماكHe protected you منfrom الخطوبِcalamities
وتنسى ما حماك من الخطوبِ
You deny the favors He has bestowed upon you,
And you deny the favors He has bestowed upon you,
and forget the perils from which He has protected you.
and forget the calamities from which He has protected you.
هوHe المولىthe Lord الذيwho بثِّHe dispensed العطاياgifts
هو المولى الذي بثِّ العطايا
دراكاin succession فيat الشّروقsunrise وفيand at الغروبsunset
دراكا في الشّروق وفي الغروب
He is the Master who distributed His bounties,
He is the Lord who has dispensed gifts
one after another, at sunrise and at sunset.

لهto Him شهدbears witness الوجودُexistence بعالميهin both its realms
له شهد الوجودُ بعالميه
منof الأجسامbodies طُراًone and all والقلوبِand hearts
من الأجسام طُراً والقلوبِ
To Him all existence, in both its realms, bears witness—
Existence, in both its realms, bears witness to Him:
all bodies without exception, and all hearts.

فإنfor indeed لهto Him belong الأوامرthe commands والنواهيand the prohibitions
فإن له الأوامر والنواهي
وتصريفand the governance of الظواهرmanifest things والغيوبِand unseen things
وتصريف الظواهر والغيوبِ
For His are the commands and the prohibitions,
For His are the commands and prohibitions,
and the governance of things visible and unseen.

إلهيmy God عفوكYour pardon الموعودpromised عمَّنfor whoever
إلهي عفوك الموعود عمَّن
تلقىreceived الوعدthe promise منكfrom You علىas الوجوبِa binding obligation
تلقى الوعد منك على الوجوبِ
My God, grant Your promised pardon to one
My God, grant Your promised pardon to whoever
who has received Your promise as a binding certainty.

فكمfor how many أخفيتَYou concealed منّيof mine منof عيوبٍfaults
فكم أخفيتَ منّي من عيوبٍ
وكمand how many فرَّجتYou relieved عنيfrom me منof كروبِafflictions
وكم فرَّجت عني من كروبِ
How many faults You have hidden from me,
For how many faults of mine You have concealed,
and how many afflictions You have relieved me of!
and how many afflictions You have lifted from me!
فوفقنيso guide me aright فأنتfor You تمنّYou bestow فضلاًgrace
فوفقني فأنت تمنّ فضلاً
علىupon العاصيthe sinner وتغفرand You forgive كلّevery حوبِsin
على العاصي وتغفر كلّ حوبِ
So grant me success: You freely bestow grace
So guide me aright, for You bestow grace
upon the sinner, and forgive every sin.
