    For the sons of al-Zubayr, glorious deeds abound—

    deeds of nobility, an unceasing torrent.

    نِعم الذرا في النائِباتِ لنا هُمُ

    So seek the heights of al-Zubayr’s house, through their excellence;

    what splendid refuge they are for us amid calamities!

    They are the loyal champions, to whom have been allotted—

    for claims to glory and noble endeavors are indeed apportioned—

    وَالمطمعونَ يَداً إِذا ما أَطعموا

    those who rally to aid when there is no one else to turn,

    and who make the outstretched hand hope when they give food;

    whose serving-bowls reach the crowns of the heights,

    and who feed in times when one asks, “Where is there a giver of food?”

    وَالحامِلونَ إِذا العَشيرَةُ تَغرمُ

    who shield their neighbor from humiliation,

    and bear the burden whenever their clan incurs a debt;

    generosity has mastered them, and valor dwells among them,

    with excellence in discourse and a distinguishing stamp of nobility.

    If you bite at them, you bite bitter colocynth

    and death-dealing poison in whatever you chew.
