وَهواكَand your love مَجنوبٌled alongside بِأُمِّbeside Umm (mother of) عُوَيمرٍʿUwaymir
وَهواكَ مَجنوبٌ بِأُمِّ عُوَيمرٍ
أَنّىwherever تَقُدهُyou lead it بِالصَبابَةِwith ardent longing يَنقَدِit follows obediently
أَنّى تَقُدهُ بِالصَبابَةِ يَنقَدِ
And your love is led alongside Umm ʿUwaymir;
Wherever you lead it with longing, it follows.
وَإِذاand when خَبرتَهُمyou test them خَبَرتَyou find سَماحَةًgenerosity
وَإِذا خَبرتَهُم خَبَرتَ سَماحَةً
وَشَراعَةًand courage تَحتbeneath الوَشيجِthe spear-shafts الموردِreddened
وَشَراعَةً تَحت الوَشيجِ الموردِ
And when you test them, you find generosity,
And courage beneath the reddened spear-shafts.
صُدقٌtrue to their word إِذاwhen وَعَدpromised الرِجالُthe men وَأَوعَدواand they threatened
صُدقٌ إِذا وَعَد الرِجالُ وَأَوعَدوا
بِأَحبِّwith the most welcome بادِرَةٍprompt response وَأَوفىand the best-kept مَوعِدِpromise
بِأَحبِّ بادِرَةٍ وَأَوفى مَوعِدِ
True to their word when men promise and threaten,
With the most welcome prompt response and the best-kept promise.
