وَنَفضتُand I shook off عَنّيfrom me نَومَهاits sleep فَسَرَيتُهاthen I traversed it by night
بِالقَومِwith the company مِنamong تَهِمٍone stricken by heat وَأَلعَثَand one parched with thirst وَانِweary
And I shook off its sleep and journeyed through it by night,
with the company—some heat-stricken, others parched and weary.
ثُمَّthen اِعتَمَدتُI set my course إِلىtoward اِبنِthe son of لَيلىLayla تَختَويtraversing

Then I made for Ibn Layla, traversing
the far-flung lands that lay between us.
وَمُمَدَّحٍand a much-praised man بِالمُكرماتِfor noble deeds مَدَحتُهُI praised him

And I praised a man much celebrated for noble deeds;
so he thrilled and was carried away by it, then bestowed gifts on me.
