    Your love for Asma is laid bare, though she has fenced herself off

    With distance and stinginess in days gone by.

    And your informant spoke of the oil and the oleander,

    And a flood flowed beneath you and did not dry up.

    زَوزى بِأَليَتِهِ لِلذُّلِّ وَاِعتَرَفا

    The ram is frantic when the young he-goat bleats at him;

    He waggles his fat tail in submission and acknowledges it.

    A glutton, a milk-sucker when his watering places grow dusty,

    And no neighbor of his sleeps when he gathers fruit.

    Word has spread among the people concerning what those two are known for:

    The hide has worn thin, and the basin has caved in.
