كَما كُنتَ عَنه سائِلاً لَو لَقيتها

Had you asked about us on the morning of Qaraqir,

Had you asked of us on the morrow of clamour

as you would have asked about it had you encountered it—

As you had asked of it, had you met it

لِقاءَ بَني نِمرٍ وَكانَ لِقاؤُهُم

غَداةَ الحُوالى حاجَةً فَقَضَيتُها

the encounter with Banu Nimr—and meeting them

The meeting of the sons of Nimr which was

on the morning of al-Huwala was a need, so I fulfilled it.

In the morning of parties a want I discharged
