وَهواكَ مَجنوبٌ بِأُمِّ عُوَيمرٍ

وَهواكَ مَجنوبٌ بِأُمِّ عُوَيمرٍ

أَنّى تَقُدهُ بِالصَبابَةِ يَنقَدِ

أَنّى تَقُدهُ بِالصَبابَةِ يَنقَدِ

And your passion is led along by Umm ʿUwaymir;

He is smitten with love for Umayma's mother,

wherever she leads it with longing, it follows.

How can you lead him there with deception?

وَإِذا خَبرتَهُم خَبَرتَ سَماحَةً

وَإِذا خَبرتَهُم خَبَرتَ سَماحَةً

وَشَراعَةً تَحت الوَشيجِ الموردِ

وَشَراعَةً تَحت الوَشيجِ الموردِ

And when you test them, you find generosity

When you get to know them, you'll find

and courage beneath the reddened spears.

Generosity and hospitality beneath the leafy branches.

صُدقٌ إِذا وَعَد الرِجالُ وَأَوعَدوا

صُدقٌ إِذا وَعَد الرِجالُ وَأَوعَدوا

بِأَحبِّ بادِرَةٍ وَأَوفى مَوعِدِ

بِأَحبِّ بادِرَةٍ وَأَوفى مَوعِدِ

They are true to their word when men promise and threaten,

Truthful are men when they make and keep a promise,

with the most welcome prompt response and the most faithfully kept promise.

With the dearest pledge and the most faithful appointment.
