ظَنُّكَyour guess فيماabout what أُسِرُّهُI conceal it حَكَمُa judge
أَرضىI am content بِهِwith it ليfor myself وَطَرفُكَand your gaze الفَهِمُdiscerning
Your guess at what I conceal is a judge
Your judgment of what I conceal is wisdom
I accept for myself—as is your discerning gaze.
Satisfying to me, and your glance is understanding.
كَيفَhow سُلُوّيmy consolation وَلَستَwhile you do not تَرحَمُنيshow me mercy
لَيسَnot بِهَذاin this way تُجاوَرُare kept company with النِعَمُblessings
How can I find solace when you show me no mercy?
How can I complain when you show no mercy?
This is no way to keep company with blessings.
With kindness, bounty does not dwell.
أَمِنتَyou trusted قَلبيmy heart عَلىwith هَواكَlove for you فَماso not
قَلبيmy heart عَلىconcerning ماwhat اِئتَمَنتَyou entrusted يُتَّهَمُis suspected
You trusted my heart with love for you, and so
You trusted my heart to your love, yet
My heart is not suspect concerning what you entrusted to it.
My heart for what you entrusted cannot be blamed.
أَظهَرتُI showed مِنfrom لَوعَةِthe burning anguish of الهَوىlove جَزَعاًdistress
وَالصَبرُand patience إِلّاexcept عَنِaway from الهَوىlove كَرَمُnobility
I showed distress at the burning anguish of love;
I revealed from love's agony much distress
And patience is noble—except in doing without love.
But patience save from love is nobility.
