    يَعرِفُهُ الجاهِلُ وَالخابِرُ

    You are nothing but a well-known proverb;

    the ignorant and the well-informed know it.

    Fruit whose orchard has been neglected,

    so those coming and going frequented it.

    O enchanter of words, though the one who

    enticed you with words is the enchanter.

    A wolf of the wilderness, its cunning armored,

    met a gazelle, its cunning unarmored.

    When I remember you, you remind me:

    Whoever has no defender has indeed been humbled.
