وَاِكتَنَّ أَهلُ الإِعدامِ في وَرَقِك
Time's vicissitudes cowered in fear of you,
The turns of time have separated us since our parting
And the destitute sheltered in your foliage.
And the people of adversity rejoiced at your absence

جَوادِ قَومٍ لَم يَجرِ في طَلَقِك
A victory is only a victory won on
Precedence is only gained by outpacing
A people's steed that has not run in your race.
The steeds of a people whose path you did not take

You have made these people cry out at your folly.
Agitated all people with your ragged ways

Ask your nights, for they know
Ask the nights, for they know
Which noble man they have made trudge in your chains.
Which generous soul overindulged in your cups

His freshness coming to the aid of your worn-out state.
His excellence returning to your creation

How much anguish for generosity, and how much anxiety
How much yearning fordew, and how much anxiety
For glory and noble deeds in your anxiety!
For glory and benevolence in your anxiety

May God cloak you in the garb of wellness
In the sleep that overtakes you and in your sleeplessness,
In your afflicted sleep and your sleeplessness

أَخرَجَ ذَمَّ الفَعالِ مِن عُنُقِك
Driving sickness from your body, just as
May He remove disease from your body
He removed the reproach of deeds from your neck,
As He removed the blame of the wicked from your neck

May He gently pass over you until
Your body, in that health, sounder than your character.
Your constitution appears healthier than your nature
