O Abu al-Qasim, praised whenever praise is mentioned,

May you be shielded from the calamities of all that goes forth at evening and dawn.

And the lands where you dwell have grown fair, so now

Their spring abode is Ghawr, and their summer retreat Najd.

So if the fringes of an ailment have touched you,

Then it is no wonder that the tawny lion should fall ill.

May you be safe, though this prayer is yours in name,

And good fortune is what benefits from its fulfillment.

For now the yellow pallor upon their faces

Matches their banners, as the Azd grieve for you.

May the suffering be ours, not yours; no harm is done

By what the sheath suffers, if the sword's blade is sound.
