My poetry pursues you wherever you flee,

even if you climb to heaven by a rope.

O son of Abu Asim, there is no protector—

woe to you!—from my onslaught and my wrath.

If you were among the noblest clients, then

you would not spread abuse against the noblest Arabs.

What noble man would consent to insulting the sons

of Abd al-Karim, those eminent, highborn chiefs?

What caller to generosity and to battle

called upon them and went unanswered?

What young man among them fought fiercely and was not

wounded on battle's morning, and did not strike a foe?

    What child saw their swords

drawn in war and did not turn grey?

If you seek proof of that, O one-eyed

Dajjal, look upon them and do not melt away.

People, as long as they live, will never tear down

what they have built of that ancestral honor.

Those men are the radiant stars, unlike one who

has become an impostor in poetry and lineage.
