بِماbecause عوفيتَyou were restored to health عافِيَةٌwell-being هَنِيَّهpleasant
May it gladden you, O scion—for it has gladdened me—
May it gladden you, O Salil, for it has gladdened me—
your being restored to health, a well-being sweet and sound.
The welcome health you have regained.
يَطولُmay be long لَكَfor you البَقاءُlife قَريرَcontented عَينٍeye
وَتُصرَفُand may be averted عَنكَfrom you صائِلَةُonslaught المَنِيَّهdeath
May your life be long, your eye serene,
May your life be long, with eyes at peace,
and may death’s assault be turned away from you.
And may death's onslaught be turned away from you.
أَرىI see الآمالَhopes ضاحِكَةَlaughing الثَناياfront teeth
تَبَسَّمُthey smile عَنrevealing عَطاياكَyour gifts السَنِيَّهsplendid
I see hopes laughing, showing their front teeth,
I see hopes laughing, their front teeth showing;
smiling to reveal your splendid gifts.
They smile, revealing your splendid gifts.
وَنورُand the light of الشَمسِthe sun ماwhenever طَلَعَتit rises تُباهيglories
بِنورِin the light of طُلوعِthe rising of طَلعَتِكَyour countenance البَهِيَّهsplendid
Whenever the sun’s fire rises, it vies in glory
And the sun's light, whenever it rises, glories
with the fiery rising of your radiant countenance.
In the dawning radiance of your splendid countenance.
بَنَيتَyou built بَنِيَّةًan edifice فيin المَجدِglory طالَتrose high
وَطُلتَand you towered بِطولِthrough the height of مَجدِكَyour glory فيin البَنِيَّهthe edifice
You built in glory an edifice that rose high,
You built an edifice of glory that rose high,
and through your glory’s height grew tall in bodily stature.
And within it you towered through your glory's height.
غَنيتَyou grew rich بِبَذلِby giving مالِكَyour wealth فيfor المَعاليlofty aims
فَنَفسُكَso your soul مِنthrough إِفادَتِهاattaining them غَنِيَّهrich
By spending your wealth on lofty pursuits, you grew rich,
You grew rich by giving your wealth for lofty aims;
for your soul needs no gain that such heights might yield.
So your soul is rich from attaining them.

From the fruits of my praise of you, there harvested for me
For me, from the fruits of my praise of you, were gathered
the tongue of gratitude—verses ripe for plucking.
By the tongue of gratitude, freshly picked verses.

I have offered them to you, though in my eyes they are
And I have offered them to you; to me they are
among the purest gifts throughout all days.
Through the years, among the choicest gifts.
