إِنَّindeed الأَميرَthe prince بَلاكَhe tested you فيin أَحوالِهِhis affairs
فَرَآكَso he found you أَهزَعَهُhis last remaining arrow غَداةَon the morning of نِضالِهِhis archery contest
Indeed, the prince tested you in his affairs,
Prince Bilak in his affairs,
and found you his last remaining arrow on the morning of his archery contest.
When he saw you it shook him after the morning of his struggle.
آسَيتَهُyou supported him فيin المَكرُماتِnoble deeds وَلَمand did not تَزَلcease
رُكناًa pillar لِمَنfor whoever هُوَhe مُمسِكٌholding fast بِحِبالِهِto his ropes
You supported him in noble deeds, and have never ceased to be
You pitied him with favors and you continued to be
a pillar for whoever holds fast to his ropes.
A pillar for whoever holds onto his ropes.
فَمَتىso when النُهوضُrising بِحَقِّto the duty of شُكرِكَthanking you إِنif جَنَتit harvested
بِالغَيبِin my absence كَفُّكَyour hand ليfor me ثِمارَthe fruits of فِعالِهِhis deeds
When, then, can I give you your due thanks, if your hand has harvested
So when is the rising to thank you rightly if you gained
for me, in my absence, the fruits of his deeds?
With the unseen your palm brought me the fruits of his deeds.
فَلَقيتُso I found بَينَbetween يَدَيكَyour two hands حُلوَthe sweetness of عَطائِهِhis giving
وَلَقيتَand you found بَينَbetween يَدَيَّmy two hands مُرَّthe bitterness of سُؤالِهِasking him
So I found, in your presence, the sweetness of his giving,
So I found before you the sweetness of his gift,
and you found, in my presence, the bitterness of asking him.
And you found before me the bitterness of his request.
وَإِذاand when اِمرُؤٌa man أَسدىbestows إِلَيكَupon you صَنيعَةًa favor
مِنthrough جاهِهِhis influence فَكَأَنَّهاthen it is as though مِنfrom مالِهِhis wealth
And when a man bestows a favor upon you
And if a man bestows upon you a favor
through his influence, it is as though it came from his wealth.
From his status, it is as if it were from his money.
