    ذا مُهجَةٍ عَن مُلِمّاتِ النَوى حَرَمِ

    Ilyas, abide in God’s protection and the shelter of sacred pledges;

    O possessor of a precious life, inviolate from separation’s calamities.

    May health be yours, its bloom never disturbed—

    no cry of “Stumble!” or “Rise!” over sandal or foot.

    God has healed you of it—an illness that befell you,

    whose claws never struck with the force of true sickness.

    The frontier’s dust-clouds cleared from the moment

    your Lord’s favors dispelled the sickness you felt within.

    And if there was a lingering ache whose violence you endured,

    recurring fever is the fierce lion of the thicket’s sworn companion.

    Indeed, when the winds rage at full force, they snap

    the boughs of Najd, paying no heed to the broom shrub.

    وَالشَمسُ وَالبَدرُ مِنهُ الدَهرَ في الرَقِمِ

    The Daughters of the Bier—and the Bier itself—suffer no eclipse;

    yet the sun and full moon are forever entered on its register.

    Calamities are the enemy of the noblest, and therefore

    they choose none but a man who can sate ravenous hunger.

    May the reward and the blessing that grew so great gladden you,

    until it polished the rust from the keen al-Ṣamṣāma blade.

    God may bestow grace through affliction, however severe,

    and God may test some people with blessings.
