إِن كانَ غَيَّرَكَ الإِثراءُ وَالنِعَمُ

إِن كانَ غَيَّرَكَ الإِثراءُ وَالنِعَمُ

فَلَن يُغَيِّرَني عَن مَحتَدي العَدَمُ

فَلَن يُغَيِّرَني عَن مَحتَدي العَدَمُ

If wealth and blessings have changed you,

If wealth and comfort changed you,

Poverty will never turn me from my noble lineage.

I will not be changed from defying annihilation.

إِذا أَناخَ عَلَيَّ الدَهرُ كَلكَلَهُ

إِذا أَناخَ عَلَيَّ الدَهرُ كَلكَلَهُ

قَراهُ صَبراً وَعَزماً مِنِّيَ الكَرَمُ

قَراهُ صَبراً وَعَزماً مِنِّيَ الكَرَمُ

When Time settles its breast upon me,

If the days pour calamities upon me,

The nobility in me serves it patience and resolve.

I will face them with patience and resolve.

فَإِن عَلَتنِيَ مِن أَزمانِهِ ظُلَمٌ

فَإِن عَلَتنِيَ مِن أَزمانِهِ ظُلَمٌ

صَبَرتُ نَفسِيَ حَتّى تُكشَفَ الظُلَمُ

صَبَرتُ نَفسِيَ حَتّى تُكشَفَ الظُلَمُ

And if darkness from its days rises over me,

If oppression darkens my time,

I keep my soul steadfast until the darkness is dispelled.

I will endure until the darkness lifts.

فَكُلُّ هَذا مَنَحتُ الحادِثاتِ بِهِ

فَكُلُّ هَذا مَنَحتُ الحادِثاتِ بِهِ

إِنّي اِمرُؤٌ لَيسَ تَرضى الضَيمَ لي الهِمَمُ

إِنّي اِمرُؤٌ لَيسَ تَرضى الضَيمَ لي الهِمَمُ

Thus I have bestowed all this upon calamities;

All this I have granted events,

I am a man whose aspirations will not tolerate humiliation.

For I am a man who accepts no injustice, my spirit is resolute.
