I have quenched the fire of loving you in my heart,

And untied myself from love's loop.

I have healed a sore of anguish that sprang up

Within the heart's membrane, like a sore in the side.

The fault is not, O hoard of all sins,

Yours in love; rather, it is mine.

Why did I not say, 'Enough for me,' and so forget

One who never said of his estrangement, 'Enough for me'?

So be safe—and may you not be safe; no wonder:

No pearl has escaped being pierced.
