نَشَرتُ فيكَ رَسيساً كُنتُ أَطويهِ

نَشَرتُ فيكَ رَسيساً كُنتُ أَطويهِ

وَأَظهَرَت لَوعَتي ما كُنتُ أُخفيهِ

وَأَظهَرَت لَوعَتي ما كُنتُ أُخفيهِ

I unfolded a deep-seated passion for you that I had kept folded away.

I disclosed in you a secret I used to conceal

And my anguish revealed what I had concealed.

And revealed my torment I used not to reveal

إِن كانَ وَجهُكَ لي تَترى مَحاسِنُهُ

إِن كانَ وَجهُكَ لي تَترى مَحاسِنُهُ

فَإِنَّ فِعلَكَ بي تَترى مَساويهِ

فَإِنَّ فِعلَكَ بي تَترى مَساويهِ

If the charms of your face come to me one after another,

If your face to me its beauties appear

Then the faults in your conduct toward me come one after another.

Then your actions toward me their evils appear

مُرتَجَّةٌ في تَهاديهِ أَسافِلُهُ

مُرتَجَّةٌ في تَهاديهِ أَسافِلُهُ

مُهتَزَّةٌ في تَثَنّيهِ أَعاليهِ

مُهتَزَّةٌ في تَثَنّيهِ أَعاليهِ

His lower body quivers in his graceful gait,

Swaying in its descending its bottoms

His upper body sways as he bends.

Shaking in its twisting its tops

تاهَت عَلى صورَةِ الأَشياءِ صورَتُهُ

تاهَت عَلى صورَةِ الأَشياءِ صورَتُهُ

حَتّى إِذا كَمَلَت تاهَت عَلى التيهِ

حَتّى إِذا كَمَلَت تاهَت عَلى التيهِ

His form vaunted itself above the forms of all things,

Lost over the image of things his image

Till, once perfected, it vaunted itself above pride itself.

Until when completed it lost to bewilderment

ما اِستُجمِعَت فِرَقُ الحُسنِ الَّتي اِفتَرَقَت

ما اِستُجمِعَت فِرَقُ الحُسنِ الَّتي اِفتَرَقَت

عَن يوسُفِ الحُسنِ حَتّى اِستُجمِعَت فيهِ

عَن يوسُفِ الحُسنِ حَتّى اِستُجمِعَت فيهِ

Never were beauty's scattered parts reunited—those dispersed

Not gathered the scattered beauty that scattered

From beauty's Joseph—until they were reunited in him.

From Joseph the beauty until gathered in him
