O Ahmad, indeed the envious are many,

and you have no peer when the noble are counted.

You have attained a distinguished, foremost station

in glory, while ancient pride itself is proud.

For every mighty or wealthy man is indeed

in need of you, even should he reach the sky.

Glory has reached its height in you; from every quarter

it comes, never passing you by as you go.

And you are Iyad's full moon—they do not deny it.

So too are Iyad full moons for humankind.

For generosity has no home but with you,

and no band of travelers but journeys toward you.

You have shunned being called “prince,” out of humility,

yet you are prince over anyone called “prince.”
