بُدِّلتَyou were changed بَعدَafter تَأَنُّسٍintimacy بِتَوَحُّشِto estrangement
بُدِّلتَ بَعدَ تَأَنُّسٍ بِتَوَحُّشِ
وَأَعَرتَand you lent سَمعَكَyour ear مَنwhoever يُبَلِّغُbrings reports أَوor يَشيslanders
وَأَعَرتَ سَمعَكَ مَن يُبَلِّغُ أَو يَشي
After intimacy, you have become estranged,
And you lent your ear to whoever brings reports or slanders.
وَزَعَمتَand you claimed أَنّيthat I ذاهِلٌheedless فَمَنِthen who الَّذيthe one who
وَزَعَمتَ أَنّي ذاهِلٌ فَمَنِ الَّذي
يُدعىis called خَليفَةَsuccessor to عُروَةٍʿUrwah وَمُرَقِّشِand Muraqqish
يُدعى خَليفَةَ عُروَةٍ وَمُرَقِّشِ
You claimed that I am heedless—then who is it
Who is called the successor to ʿUrwah and Muraqqish?
لاnot مُتُّmay I die إِنif كانَis true الَّذيwhat بُلِّغتَهُyou were told it
لا مُتُّ إِن كانَ الَّذي بُلِّغتَهُ
حَتّىuntil أُرىI am seen فيin صورَةِthe likeness of اِبنِson of الأَعمَشِal-Aʿmash
حَتّى أُرى في صورَةِ اِبنِ الأَعمَشِ
May I not die, if what you were told is true,
Until I am seen in the likeness of Ibn al-Aʿmash.
