يضحك الكأس منه عن شائب
المفرقthe hair's parting يبكيmakes weep منfrom غيرother than ضربstriking ضيوفguests
المفرق يبكي من غير ضرب ضيوف
The cup smiles with it, revealing one whose hair is gray
At the parting, who makes guests weep without striking them.
فإذاso when ذيقit is tasted أسبلتsent flowing قطرةa drop منهof it
فإذا ذيق أسبلت قطرة منه
سيولاtorrents منfrom أعينeyes وأنوفand noses
سيولا من أعين وأنوف
So when it is tasted, a drop of it sends flowing
Torrents from eyes and noses.
وإذاand when ماemphatic particle أصغىmade bend وعنىand tormented ذويthose engaged in الاكلeating
وإذا ما أصغى وعنى ذوي الاكل
تداوواthey sought treatment منهfor it بشمby smelling الرغيفthe loaf of bread
تداووا منه بشم الرغيف
And whenever it bends and torments the diners,
They seek relief from it by smelling the loaf.
