من صدره لم تسعها الأرض مضطربا
He has an ambition that fills his breast; should it emerge
from his breast, the earth would not give it room to range.
إذاif انتضىhe unsheathes للندىfor bounty أوor للردىfor death قلماa pen
إذا انتضى للندى أو للردى قلما
أجرىhe sends forth بهwith it سحباclouds أوor جحفلاan army لجباclamorous
أجرى به سحبا أو جحفلا لجبا
If he unsheathes a pen for bounty or for death,
with it he sends forth clouds or a clamorous army.
يشجيhe grieves الصعيدthe earth صعاداwith spears والندىand the dew ندىwith bounty
يشجي الصعيد صعادا والندى ندى
إذاwhen تهللhe beams للمعروفat doing good أوor قطباhe scowls
إذا تهلل للمعروف أو قطبا
He grieves the earth with spears, and dew with bounty,
when he beams at doing good or scowls.
