لي على الناس فضل نظم وعلم

لي على الناس فضل نظم وعلم

من أباه هجوته وأباه

من أباه هجوته وأباه

I surpass others in poetry and learning.

I have excellence over people in prosody and knowledge

Whoever denies it, I lampoon him and his father.

I disparage the one who disparages his father

وإذا ما أتى صفعت قفاه

وإذا ما أتى صفعت قفاه

وقفا من أعانه وقفاه

وقفا من أعانه وقفاه

And whenever he comes, I slap his nape,

And if he comes, I slap his nape

and the nape of whoever helps him and follows him.

A nape of one who helped him and his nape

رحم اللَه من أراد محالا

رحم اللَه من أراد محالا

فنهاه عن المحال نهاه

فنهاه عن المحال نهاه

May God have mercy on one who sought the impossible,

May God have mercy on one who wanted the impossible

but whose reason restrained him from the impossible.

So I forbid him from the impossible, I forbid him
