وصاحبينand two companions اتفقاthey both agreed
وصاحبين اتفقا
علىon الهوىlove واعتنقاand embraced one another
على الهوى واعتنقا
And two companions agreed
on love, and embraced.
وأقسماand they both swore بالودby affection والand the
وأقسما بالود وال
إخلاصsincerity أنthat لاnot افترقاthey would part
إخلاص أن لا افترقا
And swore by affection and
sincerity that they would never part.
ضمنهماstood surety for them both أزهرa shining one كالنlike the
ضمنهما أزهر كالن
نَجمstar بهin him قدindeed وثقاthey both trusted
نَجم به قد وثقا
A shining one stood surety for them, like a
star; in him they had placed their trust.
لمdid not يشكcomplain فيat خصريهماtheir two waists
لم يشك في خصريهما
مذsince ضمناهthey both stood surety for him قلقاrestlessness
مذ ضمناه قلقا
He has not complained, at their waists,
of restlessness since they stood surety for him.
منfrom تحتهbeneath him عينانtwo eyes منbeginning of 'since'
من تحته عينان من
ذcompletion of 'since' انفتحاthey both opened ماnot انطبقاthey both closed
ذ انفتحا ما انطبقا
Beneath him are two eyes; ever
since they opened, they have never closed.
وفوقهand above him نارانtwo fires ماnot
وفوقه ناران ما
حلاthey both dwelt فماa mouth مذsince خلقاthey were both created
حلا فما مذ خلقا
And above him are two fires: never
have they dwelt in a mouth since they were made.
يفرقانthey both split apart بينbetween كلall
يفرقان بين كل
لِcompletion of 'all' ماthat which عليهupon it اتفقاthey both agreed
لِ ما عليه اتفقا
They split apart all
that they agree upon.
فأيso whatever شيءthing لاقياthey both encountered
فأي شيء لاقيا
هit ألقياهthey both cast it down فرقاin pieces
ه ألقياه فرقا
So whatever thing they encounter,
they cast it down in pieces.
