1. أرض من العقيان

    في صورة الطيلسان

    A surface of pure gold,

    in the shape of a taylasan shawl.

  2. الشكل شكل رداء

    والنقش نقش الصواني

    Its shape is that of a cloak,

    and its engraving that of trays.

  3. بها ثلاث ركايا

    حقت بها بيران

    In it are three wells,

    with two wells set beside them.

  4. ففي الركايا ثلاث

    رحب ومخنوقتان

    So within the wells are three

    broad vessels and two narrow-necked ones,

  5. من الزجاج القد

    يم المستعمل المرواني

    made of old glass—

    the Marwani kind in use.

  6. وكلهن ملاء

    بالسعد والاشنان

    And all of them are full

    of aromatic sedge and cleansing saltwort,

  7. والمجلب المتروي

    من طيب الادهان

    and the mujlab preparation, steeped

    in fragrant oils.

  8. وفي القليبين أيضا

    زها خلال الرهان

    And in the two little wells, too,

    the toothpicks of the wager gleamed:

  9. حور بن لا لشنان

    أسرعن لا لطعان

    fair maidens that appeared, not from hatred,

    that hastened, but not to fight with spears.

  10. نوع عراض تحاكي

    مضارب العيدان

    One kind is broad, resembling

    the plectra of lutes;

  11. وآخر ذو انخذال

    في دقة السامان

    another has a drooping form,

    as slender as sāmān.

  12. ففي ولاية هذي

    الألوان عز الخوان

    Thus under the sway of these

    colors lies the dining table’s glory.
