I came to Sa'id's house, and it was empty.

He was fair-faced and noble, lavish in serving camels' humps.

There, late one afternoon, I was moved by his memory,

while my companions at Mina were absorbed in their pursuits.

So I bought a huge she-camel from the camel-driver's herd,

    branded—not an unmarked young she-camel.

I slaughtered her on Sa'id's behalf, then said to them:

Visit al-Hatim, for I am not departing.
