رُبَّmany a هامَةٍa head تَبكيweeps عَلَيكَover you كَريمَةٍnoble
رُبَّ هامَةٍ تَبكي عَلَيكَ كَريمَةٍ
بِالوُدِّout of affection أَوor بِمَجامِعِwith the accumulation of الأَضجانِgrudges
بِالوُدِّ أَو بِمَجامِعِ الأَضجانِ
Many a noble head weeps over you,
Many a noble dove in love or bondage weeps,
Out of affection, or with accumulated grudges.
Matching my great toil with her plaintive cheeps;
وَأَخٍand a brother يُوازِنُcounterbalances ماwhat جَنَيتُI committed بِقُوَّةٍwith strength
وَأَخٍ يُوازِنُ ما جَنَيتُ بِقُوَّةٍ
وَإِذاand when غَوَيتُI go astray الغَيَّerror لاnot يَلحانيhe reproaches me
وَإِذا غَوَيتُ الغَيَّ لا يَلحاني
And a brother who counters my misdeeds with strength,
A brother balancing my merit well
And when I stray into error, he does not reproach me.
When mad I wander, claims me not from hell.
