1. مُكَحَّلٌ بِالدَّعَجِ

    مُنَقَّبٌ بِالغَنَجِ

    Naturally kohl-lined with deep-eyed darkness,

    veiled in coquettish grace,

  2. مُعَصْفَرُ التُّفّاحِ في

    خَدِ مَليحِ الضَّرَجِ

    his apple-cheek safflower-tinted upon

    the cheek of a beauty, crimson-flushed.

  3. جَمَّشَهُ الشَّعْرُ وما

    ذاكَ لِطولِ الحُجَجِ

    The hair has caressed him—yet

    that is not from long years;

  4. وإِنَّما عَارِضُهُ

    شَنَّفَهُ بالسَّبَجِ

    it is only that his side-whisker

    has decked him with earrings of jet.
