with earth and garden clothed in embroidery and brocade!

And we are in the sphere of revelry that surrounds us,
as though we were in a sky with constellations.
ولَسْتُand I do not أَنْسىforget نِداميmy convivial drinking وَسطَwithin هَيْكَلِهِits sanctuary
حَتّىuntil الصَّباحِmorning غَزالاًa gazelle طَرْفُهُhis gaze ساجِlanguid
Nor do I forget my drinking within its sanctuary
until morning with a gazelle whose gaze was languid,
أَهَزُّI sway عِطْفَيْthe two flanks of قَضيبِa branch of البانِthe bān tree مُعْتَنِقاًembracing
مِنْهُof him وأَلْثُمُand I kiss عَيْنَيْthe two eyes of لُعْبَةِa doll of العاجِivory
swaying the two flanks of a bān-tree branch as I embraced
him, and kissing the two eyes of an ivory doll;
وقَوْلَتيand my words والْتِفاتيand my turning back عِنْدَat مُنْصَرَفيmy departure

while longing shook my heart—how fiercely!
