حَلَقْتَ سِبالَكَ جَهْلاً بما

حَلَقْتَ سِبالَكَ جَهْلاً بما

يُواري مِنَ النَّكِراتِ القِباحِ

يُواري مِنَ النَّكِراتِ القِباحِ

You shaved off your mustache, unaware of what

You let down your moustache in ignorance of what

ugly horrors it concealed.

It hides of ugly sights

فَعَذَبْتَ صَحْبَكَ حتى المَساء

فَعَذَبْتَ صَحْبَكَ حتى المَساء

وعَذَبْتَ عرسك حتى الصَّباحِ

وعَذَبْتَ عرسك حتى الصَّباحِ

So you tormented your companions until evening,

So you tortured your friends until the evening

and tormented your wife until morning.

And tortured your wedding until the morning

فلا أَبْعَدَ اللهُ ذاكَ السّبالِ

فلا أَبْعَدَ اللهُ ذاكَ السّبالِ

فَقَدْ كَانَ ستْراً عَلى مستراحِ

فَقَدْ كَانَ ستْراً عَلى مستراحِ

So may God never banish that mustache,

May God not remove that moustache

for it was a screen over a privy.

For it has been a cover over privates
