بِنَفْسيwith my life as ransom حَبيبٌa beloved بانَdeparted صَبْريmy patience لِبَيْنِهِbecause of his parting
وأَوْدَعَنيand lodged within me الأَحْزانَsorrows ساعَةَat the moment ودَّعاhe bade farewell
My life for a beloved—my patience fled at his parting.
And he lodged sorrows within me the moment he bade farewell.
وأَنْحَلَنيand wasted me away بِالهَجْرِthrough estrangement حَتّىto the point that لَوْif أَنَّنيthat I
قَذىًa mote بَيْنَbetween جَفْنَيْthe two eyelids of أَرْمَدٍa sore-eyed man ماnot تَوَجَّعاhe would feel pain
And he wasted me away through estrangement, so that, were I
A mote between a sore-eyed man's eyelids, he would feel no pain.
