فَدَيْتُكَmay I be your ransom ماnot شِبْتُI grew gray مِنْfrom كِبْرَةٍold age
فَدَيْتُكَ ما شِبْتُ مِنْ كِبْرَةٍ
وهَذيand this is سِنّيmy age وهَذاand this is الحِسابُthe reckoning
وهَذي سِنّي وهَذا الحِسابُ
May I be your ransom! I have not grown gray from old age;
I have sacrificed my prime for you
And this is my age, and this the reckoning.
Yet here I am, aged and weak
ولَكِنْbut هَجَرْتَyou forsook me فَحَلَّso there came المَشيthe gray hair (word begins)
ولَكِنْ هَجَرْتَ فَحَلَّ المَشي
بُ(completes 'the gray hair') وَلَوْand if قَدْindeed وَصَلْتَyou reunited with me لَعادَthen would have returned الشَّبابُyouth
بُ وَلَوْ قَدْ وَصَلْتَ لَعادَ الشَّبابُ
But you forsook me, and gray hair set
But you abandoned me, so I walk alone
in; had you but reunited with me, youth would have returned.
If only you had stayed, my youth would have returned
