ما رَعى الدَهرُ آلَ بَرمَكَ حَقّاً

ما رَعى الدَهرُ آلَ بَرمَكَ حَقّاً

أَن رَمى مُلكَهُم بِأَمرٍ فَظيعِ

أَن رَمى مُلكَهُم بِأَمرٍ فَظيعِ

Time did not duly honor the house of Barmak,

Time did not rightly shepherd the kin of Barmak,

Fate did not truly observe the rights of the House of Barmak,

For it struck their dominion with a dreadful calamity.

When it cast their kingdom into dire turmoil.

When it struck their dominion with a calamity most foul;

إِنَّ دَهراً لَم يَرعَ حَقّاً لِيَحيى

إِنَّ دَهراً لَم يَرعَ حَقّاً لِيَحيى

غَيرُ راعٍ ذِمامَ آلِ الرَبيعِ

غَيرُ راعٍ ذِمامَ آلِ الرَبيعِ

Indeed, an age that did not honor Yahya's rights

A time that tended no right for life to thrive

For indeed, an age that honored not the due of Yahya

Will not uphold its pledge to the house of al-Rabi‘.

Except tending the reins of the house of Spring.

Will not keep faith with the clan of al-Rabi‘.
