Say to the one with the Turkish-looking face,

and to the one with the musk-scented temple,

and to the one with the navel and belly folds,

    and the drooping breast:

You have feigned muteness, though not by nature,

    to make your coyness obstinate.

    But that, O open one,

would do nothing but come undone.

    So tell me which bird

among the birds of the earth led you in bridal procession?

    Whenever insistence fondled you,

or if I sought union with you,

you said to me, “Oh, my misery

because of you! Haven’t you given yourself a rest?”
