أَياO مَنyou who لاnot يُرامُcan be sought لَهُto him كَلامُspeech
فَكَيفَso how سِوىother than الكَلامِspeech إِذاًthen يُرامُcan be sought
O you with whom no conversation can be had,
O you whose speech is never desired,
O you with whom mere speech is beyond hope,
So how, then, can anything beyond conversation be sought?
Then how else could speech possibly be desired?
How then can one aspire to more than words?

فَيَشمَلُنيso it includes me مَعَwith القَومِthe people السَلامُthe greeting
Nor is there any greeting except from afar,
No greeting except from afar,
Nor is a greeting granted save from afar,
So the greeting includes me along with the people.
So it includes me along with the rest of the people.
That I might share the salutation with the throng.

I love being reproached over him, for no other reason
I love blame in it, there is nothing but
I cherish the blame regarding him for one cause alone:
Than the repetition of his name in the reproaches I receive.
The repetition of his name in what I am blamed for.
To hear his name repeated in the reproach.
وَيَدخُلُand enters حُبُّهُlove for him فيinto كُلِّevery قَلبٍheart

And love for him enters every heart,
And love for him enters every heart
For his love penetrates into every heart,
Through entrances that wine cannot shake.
Through passages that alcohol does not disturb.
Through secret ways that vintage wine cannot perturb.
