ياO مَنyou who يُوَجِّهُinterprets أَلفاظيmy words لِأَقبَحِهاtoward their ugliest sense
يا مَن يُوَجِّهُ أَلفاظي لِأَقبَحِها
لِأَنَّهُbecause he ساحِرُbewitching العَينَينِof the two eyes مَعشوقُbeloved
لِأَنَّهُ ساحِرُ العَينَينِ مَعشوقُ
O you who interpret my words in their ugliest sense,
O you who direct my words to their ugliest
O you who twists my words to their ugliest intent,
Because he has bewitching eyes and is beloved.
Because he who is beloved is a sorcerer of eyes
Simply because he is an enchanter of eyes, the beloved,

If fire burned the mouth of whoever said ‘fire,’
If it were true that one who said "fire" burnt their mouth
If the one who said "fire" had his mouth burned by it,
No creature would utter the name of fire.
No being would utter the name of fire
No creature would ever have uttered the name of fire.
