أَرَقَّ وَأَصفى مِنَ الجَوهَرِ
O reviver of the heart—her name’s very opposite—
The reviver of hearts, her name belies her
O reviver of the heart, the opposite of her name,
more delicate and purer than a jewel.
More delicate and refined than gems
More delicate and purer than a precious jewel,
تَخِفُّcounts for little الخِلافَةُthe caliphate فيin عَينِهاher eyes
تَخِفُّ الخِلافَةُ في عَينِها

وَرُبَّ السَريرُ مَعَ المِنبَرِ
The caliphate counts for little in her eyes,
Royalty is humbled in her eyes
The Caliphate weighs lightly in her eyes,
as does the lord of the throne and pulpit.
As is the couch next to the pulpit
As does the Master of the Throne and Pulpit,

وَرِقَّ الأَميرِ أَبي الأَزهَرِ
And through beauty she has indeed mastered mankind,
With her beauty she rules all people
She has taken possession of mankind through beauty,
and holds Prince Abu al-Azhar in bondage.
And melts the heart of the Prince Abu al-Azhar
And holds in bondage the Prince, Abu al-Azhar.
