أَنتَyou وَرَبّيby my Lord مِنهُمُamong them الأَوَّلُthe foremost
O describer of boys in his poetry,
O you who describe the youths in your poetry
O you who describes young men in his verse,
You, by my Lord, are foremost among them.
You and my Lord are the best of them
You, by my Lord, are the foremost among them.
وَصَفتَyou described خَمسينَfifty فَمَيَّزتَهُمso you distinguished them
وَأَنتَand you أَنتَyou الظِبيَةُthe doe المُغزِلُwith a fawn
You described fifty and distinguished them,
You described fifty, singling them out
You have described fifty and singled them out,
And you—you are the doe with a fawn.
While you, you are the playful gazelle
Yet you yourself are the beguiling gazelle.
عَنّاfrom us وَدَعهُمand leave them عَنكَaway from you أَوor وَصفَهُمtheir description
أَنتَyou وَرَبّيby my Lord مِنهُمُthan them أَجمَلُmore beautiful
Away from us—and leave them, or their description, aside.
Leave them be, or describing them
Leave them aside, and cease describing them,
You, by my Lord, are more beautiful than they are.
You and my Lord are the most beautiful
For you, by my Lord, are more beautiful than they.
ياO وَزَّةًgoose تَنقُصُgrow fewer أَمثالُهاthose like her
وَقَدand indeed تَلاهاhas followed her اللَحِمُthe flesh الأَحفَلُthe most abundant
O goose, whose like grow scarce,
O cheek dimple that makes its like deficient
O goose whose equal is rarely found,
And the most abundant flesh has followed her.
Though the softest flesh follows it
Followed by the most bountiful flesh,
قَدindeed قُلتُI said وَالعُقبَةُwhile the turn لاnot تَنقَضيcomes to an end
أُرفُقbe gentle حَبيبيmy beloved أَنتَyou مُستَعجِلُin a hurry
I said, while the turn was not yet over:
I have spoken, though the difficulty is endless
I have spoken, and the consequences are endless,
Be gentle, my beloved; you are in a hurry.
Be gentle, my love, you are impatient
Be gentle, my love; you are too hasty.
